Tunes such as ‘Dreams from Yesterday’, ‘Moonlight on the River’ and ‘A Wolf in Sheeps Clothes’ include pleasant acoustic riffs and sound solid throughout. The songs sound more spacious, incorporating more acoustic guitars than before which makes this album a bit less rock n roll so to say. The tone of ‘This Old Dog’ is more laid back than the one of ‘Salad Days’. On this latest project, the synths are still here but a bit more at the background which makes the tunes that include a lot of synth leads sound smoother and more balanced. This project was characterized by the increased use of synthesizers, which gave the EP an even more hazy and dreamy tone. In between ‘Salad Days’ and ‘This Old Dog’, Mac released an EP called ‘Anoter One’. The first thing I noticed when playing this record was that the sound had changed a bit from his last project. It even received the ‘Best New Music’ prize from famous music website Pitchfork.Īnd now in 2017, Mac Demarco is back with ‘This Old Dog’. ‘2’ was released shortly after and was critically acclaimed by the public. His new label, Captured Tracks liked this project so much that they gave him the chance to release a full-length project. After moving from Vancouver to Montreal he focused more on solo projects which lead to him releasing his first EP ‘Rock n Roll Nightclub’. His first serious attempt on releasing music was under the name ‘Makeout Videotape’ in 2009. McBriare Samuel Lanyon ‘Mac’ DeMarco began playing in bands while in high school. ‘Salad Days’, his second album, remains to be one of my favorite rock records of the past couple of years. Mac is known for making very laid back, almost dreamy sounding rock n roll songs. The Canadian singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mac Demarco is back with his 3 rd full length album: ‘This Old Dog’.
